It can be difficult to fully follow Jesus in our world.
Some would say it’s impossible.
I tend to agree with them, and so did Paul.
The early disciples depended on something much more powerful, supernatural, and mysterious than simply reciting their Lord’s words and holding each other accountable.
They lived and breathed by the Holy Spirit.
It was so vitally important, that we have an interesting encounter with Paul and some new disciples in Ephesus…
Acts 19:1–2 (ESV)
19 And it happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the inland country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples. 2 And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
“Did you receive?”
That is a significant question for any of us today. There was an experience with the Holy Spirit that went far beyond belief and the early disciples could tell you when it happened.
I wonder how many Christians today can tell of their story of receiving the Holy Spirit in their lives, It’s not inconsequential. Jesus, himself, said this about the experience…
Acts 1:8 (ESV)
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
This weekend we are starting another in our “Doctrine Series”.
The doctrine of pneumatology, otherwise known as “a word about the Spirit”.
The Holy Spirit is a very real part of the Trinity of God. Not only does the Spirit exist, but it is promised to all those who know Christ.
Join us for this important study of understanding the work of the Holy Spirit and how to experience Him fully.
