Let me first say that one of my favorite church programs of all time is Vacation Bible School. I’ve loved it since I was a kid and have championed it in every church that I have ever pastored…save Journey.

VBS1This year, Christie wanted to champion it for us and did she ever! 44 children participated in our 4 day event and almost as many adults and teenagers were part of pulling it off.

Vacation Bible School is a huge undertaking from planning to recruiting volunteers to leading each of the classes and activities. That doesn’t even take into account the number of hours spent shopping for and preparing snacks, games, activities, and decorations.

vbs2A small army descended on the warehouse where bikes, balls, kayaks, and a gazillion arrows created an environment centered around “move”ing…
From here to there.
From bored to passionate.
From selfish to giving.
From unfocused to wide awake.
By knowing Jesus.

You see, once you know Jesus, you can’t stand still! You have to move because God is always moving.
Once you come face to face with Him, you will be propelled to go somewhere..do something.

vbs3So many volunteers help to make all of this happen.
They moved weeks before the first activity started…
They moved for hours planning and preparing for the kids they would come in contact with…
They moved every night, most after a full day at work, with smiles on their faces and a lifelong lesson to teach our children.

I am so thankful for every one of you that gave of yourself so that our children can know they are loved and learn a little more about what it means to follow Jesus.

I am literally blown away by the creativity that went into every part from games, to decorations, to the teaching, even to snacks (which were the most healthy and impressive snacks I have ever seen at VBS).

Let us all follow their leave and prepare to move, because that’s what Jesus propels us all to do.
